Onslow Caregivers Inc. Donates $400,000 to the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation
Gift Earmarked for Hospice Services for Onslow County Residents
The Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation will announce a $400,000 donation from Onslow Caregivers Inc. of Jacksonville to establish an endowment supporting hospice services for Onslow County residents. The gift will be the centerpiece of an Appreciation Event to honor Onslow Caregivers Inc. officials on Tuesday, November 12th at 11 a.m. at Onslow Memorial Hospital.
According to Terry Jarman, President of the Onslow Caregivers Inc. Board, the gift agreement between Caregivers Inc. and the OMH Foundation specifically earmarks funds from the endowment to be utilized for the residents of Onslow County.
“Our mission is, and has always been, to help the people and families of Onslow County who are in need of hospice services,” reported Jarman. “This marks an historic milestone within our organization as this endowed gift will create ongoing resources, year after year after year, to help the people of this county.”
Along with private donations, Onslow Caregivers Inc. successfully operated The Festival of Trees in Jacksonville for over 18 years. The annual event attracted a number of residents and local sponsors during the holidays. In addition to raising funds in that period, Onslow Caregivers also provided a spectrum of hospice services to hundreds of people in the region.
Thomas Giffin, Executive Director of the Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation, reports, “The gift establishes The Onslow Caregivers Endowment for Hospice Services, and will result in services for local people in perpetuity. One hundred percent of the $400,000 goes towards establishing the new endowment.”
Onslow Caregivers board member Marge Zima, reported the group is hopeful to continue its tradition of caring by adding to the endowment in the future.
“Additional good works can always be accomplished through philanthropy,” Zima stated. “We value the fact that as the endowment continues to grow, Onslow Caregivers can continue to help an even greater number of our neighbors.”
Onslow Memorial Hospital President and CEO, Penney Burlingame Deal, called the $400,000 Onslow Caregivers gift, “A reminder of what compassionate, kind people can accomplish.”
“The Onslow Caregivers story is a wonderful philanthropic tale. A $400,000 endowment, to a community hospital, for hospice services for local residents… I think it is safe to say not a single member of the Onslow Caregivers organization – past, present and in the future – will ever have to question whether their efforts have impacted the lives of local people,” Deal stated.
Onslow Memorial Hospital is celebrating its 80th Anniversary with a series of special events. Deal called attention to how the Onslow Caregivers’ $400,000 donation is now a paramount part of the year-long celebration.
“We recognize a gift of this magnitude represents thousands of unseen acts of kindness and tireless efforts from numerous volunteers within the Onslow Caregivers organization,” Deal stated. “Let me express our sincere gratitude to every individual associated with Onslow Caregivers on behalf of all the families you will help in the next 80 years and beyond. Quite honestly, everyone associated with Onslow Memorial Hospital, will never be able to say ‘thank you,’ too many times for this unparalleled donation.”
