What We Do

The Julie’s Pink Warrior Project is in honor of Julie Zerkle, a breast cancer warrior who was passionate about supporting individuals with the same disease. The proceeds of Julie’s Pink Warrior Project will help provide screening 3D mammograms for the underinsured and the uninsured in Onslow County. Since its inception in 2018, Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation has provided over 395 mammograms.

Julie’s Pink Warrior Project saw its first patient on July 3, 2018, and has been helping women in Onslow County ever since.

In 2020, Julie’s Pink Warrior Project began partnering with the Onslow County Health Department to bring the Breast Cervical Cancer Control Program (BCCCP) back to Onslow County. The BCCCP program is a community-based partnership created to help provide uninsured or underinsured individuals who face high out-of-pocket costs due to insurance deductibles full access to breast and cervical cancer screening.

Who We Serve

Julie’s Pink Warrior Project provides a crucial lifeline for women in the fight against breast cancer, particularly those who lack adequate health insurance. By offering free 3D mammogram screenings, the initiative ensures that all women, regardless of their financial situation, have access to early detection services. This early detection is key to increasing survival rates, as it often allows for less invasive treatment options and a better prognosis. The project not only honors the memory of Julie Zerkle by continuing her passion for supporting others but also actively reduces healthcare inequalities by ensuring that every woman has the chance to fight cancer with the best tools available.
