The Onslow Memorial Hospital Foundation continues to strengthen its impact across our region by staying focused on what matters most: caring, staying local, maximizing impact, and operating with efficiency. Here’s what’s new and noteworthy:

OMH Foundation Highlights – April 2025

New Nursing Scholarship Honors Ed Garris
We’re proud to announce a new scholarship program in memory of Ed Garris, our former Board Chair who passed away in February. This scholarship supports nursing students at Coastal Carolina Community College who have a heart to serve at Onslow Memorial Hospital after graduation. It began with a $6,000 award from the OMH Foundation Board and has since grown to $8,000 with support from friends and community partners. We’re grateful to the Coastal Carolina Community Foundation for helping make this initiative possible.

Support for Safe Newborn Travel
Thanks to a major recent donation, the OMH Foundation is providing free child car seats to low-income families. This effort ensures that every newborn leaves Onslow Memorial Hospital safely and in compliance with North Carolina car seat laws. The initiative is being led by our Women and Children Services team in partnership with Emergency Department staff.

Mental Health First Aid Seminar Coming in August
This summer, OMH Foundation is teaming up with Blue Cross Blue Shield to offer a Mental Health First Aid Seminar. The free training will be open to OMH staff and employees of other local nonprofits in Onslow County. Participants will learn how to recognize and respond to signs of addiction and mental health challenges. More information will be announced soon—special thanks to Blue Cross Blue Shield for making this possible.

We’re excited about these projects and the difference they’ll make across our community. Let’s keep being the talk of the region—for all the right reasons.
