Residents of southwest Onslow County will soon have expanded access to healthcare with the groundbreaking of a new $14 million, 36,000-square-foot Onslow Memorial Hospital medical facility in Burton Industrial Park. Construction began Monday on the site, located on NW Corridor Boulevard in Jacksonville.

The project is part of OMH’s strategic plan to expand clinical services and meet the needs of a growing community. “One of our key goals was to develop a new medical office building to accommodate the expansion of our clinical services and be prepared for the continued growth in Onslow County,” said Pat Alford, vice chair of the OMH Authority. “Today marks a point in time where it’s publicly visible that this building is going to go up.”

The center will offer most of OMH’s ambulatory services, including dermatology, pulmonology, general surgery, internal and family medicine, along with supporting services such as lab work and radiology.

Onslow County Commissioner Royce Bennett emphasized the convenience for local residents: “They’ll be able to access medical care easier and faster without having to drive across town.” The property’s easy access and lack of congestion add to its appeal, and the site’s setting will complement the facility’s modern design.

The medical center is expected to create 200 jobs, with more employment opportunities anticipated if nearby retail and restaurant developments follow. County officials see this as the first phase of a larger mixed-use project that could spur additional growth in Burton Park.

The facility is projected to open in January 2027.
